Airport logistics Siemens receives major order for Palma de Mallorca Airport

Siemens Logistics has been awarded a comprehensive order to modernize and optimize the baggage handling system at Spain’s Palma de Mallorca Airport. With this project, Siemens Logistics will in particular help airport operator Aena (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea) to ensure that international specifications for baggage screening are met to the highest degree. Siemens’ scope of delivery includes the integration of new screening units as well as the installation of six Siemens tilt-tray sorter units (VarioSort TTS), 79 baggage carousels, and 60 check-ins.

Siemens Logistics’ VarioSort TTS baggage solution is a highly energy-efficient tilt-tray sorter with a very robust and reliable design, and low life-cycle costs. Particularly important features include an increase of throughput rate and modular product components. Siemens Logistics will carry out the project with carefully thought-out steps, with no interruptions to airport operations. The measures are scheduled to be completed in the next five years.
